Kindezi Teachers and Administrators Hard at Work!

School doesn’t start until August 9, but our dedicated team of Kindezi teachers and administrators are hard at work! We are spending the month of July together, discussing the theoretical (teaching methods, pedagogy, etc.) and taking care of all of the practical details involved in starting a school (schedules, classrooms, etc.).

The Kindezi School is a true community school, and we will only succeed with support from all community members. Thank you to the many parents and other family members who have already worked to support our efforts in preparing for the first school year. If you have time, energy, talents and/or items to donate, please let us know.

Our students are getting ready for school, too. All students will come in for diagnostic testing before school starts. These assessments will give teachers a good idea of where we are starting, and where we are headed. Also, it will enable us to create classrooms with diverse groups of students.

We have refined our school supply list; there is now an age-appropriate list for the younger students (K-1). You will receive a copy when your child comes for diagnostic testing. The lists will also be available on the website very soon.

We are so excited to see our halls filled with young students in just a few weeks, and look forward to getting to know our students and families better. It’s going to be an amazing first year!

Kindezi Staff Profiles

As our opening day approaches, The Kindezi School team has grown by leaps and bounds! Our staff of 16 educators offer a wealth of experience and ideas; also on board are our founding Principal and a Chief Financial Officer.

Joining Dean Leeper on the administrative team is our new Chief Financial Officer, Kirt Greenburg. Kirt holds an MBA from Goizueta Business School at Emory University and has over ten years of experience in business finance and operations. Working in a start-up environment is energizing for Kirt, and he has founded or helped build several businesses and organizations in the past ten years. On the subject of the Kindezi start-up effort, Kirt states, "Innovation is always met with challenges and a certain degree of skepticism, and Kindezi is certainly innovative — it is exciting to be part of a team that will show that small class sizes are feasible in our public educational system and that these small classes can provide a superior educational experience."

Elizabeth McGee will be working both as classroom teacher and special education coordinator for The Kindezi School. Elizabeth holds both a B.S. and a M.Ed. in Special Education, and has a wealth of experience to draw from with over ten years work teaching and providing special education services in various school environments. Says Elizabeth about her new job, "I am so excited about being a founding teacher at The Kindezi School, where all children will experience individualized education in a small setting that will help them grow and develop a true love for learning. Through fun and challenging activities, I will instill in my students a love and excitement for learning that they will hopefully carry on throughout their lives."

We are so excited to have Kirt and Elizabeth on board and look forward to introducing you to more staff members soon!

Lottery Information
Thursday, April 8, 2010

This Saturday, April 10th at 4:00pm, parents and guardians are invited and encouraged to attend the public lottery that will randomly determine who is accepted into The Kindezi School. The lottery will be held at the Harland Boys & Girls Club which is located at 434 Peeples St., ATL GA 30310 just north of I-20.

The benefit of attending is not just that you will learn about the drawing position of your child, but also that you will receive an information packet to facilitate the enrollment process. However, your attendance will NOT improve the chances of your child's name being drawn sooner in the lottery. If you are not in attendance, we will notify by phone and email as to your child's status within the following work week.

The lottery will be conducted by grade level with the older grades going first. Every grade will have a lottery.

I hope to see you there.
