The Kindezi School will be a kindergarten through eighth grade charter school in southwest Atlanta, opening in August 2010.

Recently approved by Atlanta Public Schools, The Kindezi School will pioneer a dramatically different approach to public education including:

• Family-sized classrooms with six students and one teacher
• Tutorial method as a main form of instruction
• Individualized instruction for each student
• A focus on leadership and the arts

5 Core Beliefs

1. There is no conflict between rigorous expectations and supportive nurturing care.What children need is BOTH.
2. Children are unique individuals; they have a right to receive instruction that meets their needs. With individualized learning plans, and in classes with only six students, Kindezi teachers will instruct students in a way that addresses each child's readiness, interests, and learning styles.
3. Creativity and critical thinking are essential higher order skills that should be cultivated in each child.  With just six students per class, Kindezi teachers will help students achieve baseline skills measured on standardized tests while also encouraging the development of critical higher order thinking skills.
4. A school culture of accountability is essential. Everybody (students, parents, teachers, and administrators) should be held accountable for meeting clear and high expectations.
5. A democratic school model can empower students, parents, and teachers. The Kindezi School model integrates the voices of parents in helping craft their child's learning program, teachers in managing the school, and students in applying their ideas and creativity through leadership and the arts.
